ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Sam Tanigawa is a non-binary, local Japanese artist based in Honolulu. Their work focuses on color, emotional response, and making art that feels attainable and welcoming to a wide range of viewers, primarily working with canvas and acrylics. Their small- to mid-scale pieces invite viewers to notice color, form, and texture, encouraging personal, emotional connections with each work. Embracing a slightly messy, wabi-sabi sensibility, the work remains intentionally accessible and attainable.
